Preamble

We, The Station Church of Corpus Christi, Texas establish this constitution for the preservation and the exploration of our faith.  This constitution secures the liberties of each individual within the body and the autonomy of this body in its relation to other churches.

I. Official Title of the Church

This is body shall be known as “The Station Church” (here on referred to as, “The Station”) of Corpus Christi, Texas.

II. Church Purpose

The primary purpose of The Station is to glorify God and, being led by the Holy Spirit, to make present and available the kingdom of God through the sharing of His gifts of love, grace and salvation to every person we may encounter. Furthermore, We commit this body to perpetrate:

  • Complete obedience to God’s Will as it is revealed to our body.
  • Our commitment to wholly loving God by demonstrating love to every person, and wholly loving every person as a demonstration of our love for God.
  • A passion for taking on and imitating the life and character of Jesus Christ, himself, and proving ourselves his disciples through serious reflection and application of his teachings.
  • The furthering of the gospel through the proclamation and demonstration of God’s Word.
  • The tradition of table fellowship through the sharing of meals together each time we gather as a body.
  • The dedication of our individual and corporate gifts and talents to seek and meet the needs of people in our community by graciously serving people in the same manner of our Savior, Jesus Christ. (Matthew 25:35-40)
  • The development of all believers and nonbelievers in their faith in a manner that draws them closer to God.
  • The practice of our doctrinal beliefs, ministry, and church operation in accordance with Biblical principles.

III. Statement of Belief

The Scriptures

The Holy Bible, which is composed of the 66 books of the Old Testament and New Testament, was written and compiled by individuals who were divinely inspired to record God’s revelation of Himself to humankind. The foundation of our faith comes from the Holy Bible, which we believe, is the whole Word of God.  It is the full and final authority on all matters of faith and the practice thereof, and should be approached with respect and reverence. (II Timothy 3:16-17)

God

We believe there is only one true living God, who eternally exists in three persons —Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created the world and everything within it from nothing, and He cosmically and intimately reigns sovereign over His creation. He is a loving God who seeks for his creation to intimately know and love him.

God the Son

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who took on a true human nature by miraculous conception and virgin birth. He chose to live in perfect obedience according to divine law, and by his death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension back to heaven He made provisions for the redemption of all people from sin.

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God sent to humankind at the request of Jesus Christ.  He draws people to the Savior, Jesus, through conviction and enlightenment.  At the point of salvation, his presence is planted permanently in every believer for spiritual guidance and assurance of God’s grace and redemption.

Salvation

Salvation involves the redemption of the whole person, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer.  When God has begun a saving work in the heart of any person, He gives assurance in His Word that he will continue performing it until its full consummation. For each individual, salvation comes in the form of a rebirth of the whole person, who upon receiving salvation is a new creation; raised to walk in newness of light, conformed to the image Christ, separated for God’s purposes and glorification at the end of life. Furthermore, in the broadest sense and application, salvation includes the entirety of creation being set to rights as God intended it to be from the beginning.

The Church

The Church is the union of God’s people as one global body, which gather together locally to worship God and further develop a personal relationship with Him and other believers.  Any location where God’s people fellowship together in obedience to His commands, there is a local expression of the Church.  The local body of Christ gather together to devote themselves to His teachings, exercising the gifts and rights bestowed on them by God’s Word, observing baptism and communion, and seeking to extend the gospel throughout the world as they go through life.

Baptism

Christian Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  It is an outward expression of the spiritual cleansing and new creation believers go through upon accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. Although not required for salvation, Christ’s Baptism is an essential act of obedience and committed to the Lordship of Jesus on the individual.

Communion

Referred to as the Lord’s Supper, Communion is an expression of the Christian’s active remembering and reflection on the life, death, and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ, by the partaking of bread and the fruit of the vine.

Last Things

God, in his own time and in His own way, will bring an end to temporal history, and will at that time make wholly new the heavens and the earth.  According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth, the dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness.

IV. Church Covenant

We the body solemnly believe The Station is called to do the works of God, and to be placed in the world of darkness and despair as salt and light. We are committed to forming a community of believers who have an unquenchable passion and adoration for God that is evident in everything we do. We seek to create space in our community and in our world where people experience the Kingdom of God as “near” and made available to without stipulation or contingency.

As we journey through life, we will live and act as one body inseparably bonded by the love of Jesus as one heart and one mind. We are committed to living in accordance with scripture and fulfilling our purpose as a body — living to glorify God. Obediently, we submit our lives fully to Jesus and surrender our desires in pursuit to find His.

Furthermore, we will be a body committed to and held accountable by the standard of the life of Jesus Christ, himself. As brothers and sister in Christ, we will continually encourage each other to mature in Christ, until our lives as individual wholly reflect the love and character of Jesus.

Our body will be flexible, teachable, and malleable to God’s will, and in love we will encourage every person we encounter to experience the presence of God and accepted his wisdom and will for their own lives.  We will make ourselves open and available to God’s direction in aspects of our individual and corporate ministry.

In order to further the kingdom of God, we commit to bridge the gap between those who follow Jesus and those who do not by loving people as Christ loves us.  Therefore, we will offer our Christ-like love on all people as we go throughout life.  Moreover, we committed to playing an active role in the community at large, and sharing God (His grace, joy, presence, and salvation) with Christians and not-yet-Christians alike.

V. Church Polity

With Jesus Christ as head of this body, our church shall be governed under the guidance of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.  Any governing body organized within the church must report to and be held accountable by the body as a whole.  The actions of any governing body of the church must reflect the purposes established by this Constitution.  Furthermore, this church is organized for the purpose of engaging in the religious practices and worship set forth by our Father, and to promote the spiritual welfare and maturity of the community as whole.
